Eating Out

Surprisingly Good

Eating out can be quite a scary experience. You quickly learn the places that will make you feel safe and cared for and the ones that don't. Coeliac UK have a list of accredited venues for people following a Gluten Free diet. You can find it here

Thankfully in the last few years laws have changed in the UK following a few very sad high profile incidents. The good news for you is that now any food intolerance or allergy is taken extremely seriously. We have found that most large chains can cater really well for Gluten Free diets. Small independent cafes and garden centres also seem to do really well in offering a variety. The only area we have found lacking is large coffee house chains which are equally lacking in options!

Tips!

  • Call ahead if you can to check options

  • Tell the host/hostess when you arrive that you are either Coeliac or Gluten intolerant. Remember that some restaurants may have different processes or policies depending on which you are.

  • Make sure you remind your waiter or waitress each time you order

  • If you order anything fried like fish or chips, ask if they will be fried in a Gluten Free fryer. If not you will experience cross contamination

Try not to be scared, yes it can be risky but honestly our experiences have been so much better than we expected.
